A week of NON-SERVICE

For many years my parents have told me that my actions not only affect me but those around me as well; many of these conversations took place after I had made a poor decision or I got in trouble. I completely understood that my poor decisions affected people but this trip has taught me that even good decisions, helping people out, and doing nice things can also affect people; they can even hinder their growth.

For the past week, I have not been able to serve my teammates around the house because only a few of us would help out (because we thought that we had to) and everyone else would rely on us to get things done (because we wouldn’t ask for help)…because I always felt the need to serve, I hindered other people from getting the opportunity to do so. My "go-getter" attitude made it hard for people to jump in and help.

However, over the past week I have been so encouraged because everyone has stepped up to help out. I now know that I do not need to be one of the few people serving because I know that each and every one of my teammates wants to help and serve to. I guess the moral of this story is that you can be doing the right thing, for the right reasons, but by doing it to the extreme it’s like you are doing the wrong thing for the wrong reasons.
