God’s Blessings

Sorry, I only have a really quick update!   It’s day five in Africa and I’ve already learned so much. God has blessed my group so much. We’re living in a hostile, not tents, have toilets, toilet paper, beds, cold showers, and regular transportation. Visa prices were cut in half and customs lets us through without having to check our bags. And there are hardly any mosquitoes. Souls have already been won over to Christ, God’s already healed people, including myself (not a serious ailment, family), and the community amongst our group is definitely one of the...

Monkeys and Blessings

Drew Hulsey Monkeys and Blessings Kenya has been amazing so far. The people are so awesome and so very kind. God has given us way more than we need. We arrived thinking we would be sleeping in tents but ended up in a secure compound (kind of like dorms)with beds, a few miles away from the church. Also the church has hooked with a awesome cook called Patrick, who is so humble and can cook the best meals ever, needless to say we do eat very well. But not only do we have a cook, not only do we have beds, we have monkeys in our backyard. They are fun to watch, I’m such a white...

First teaching experience!

Hi momma and daddy! I am safe, eating well, getting good sleep, and LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING Africa!   Today, we went to a school and it was just one big room with four different forms (or classes) in it. TONS of smiling kids reaching up at us! I told the people we are working with that I wanted to be a teacher and that I am going to school for that.  When we got there the kids were singing “Welcome! Welcome!”. We started playing with them, singing, and introducing ourselves.  One man, his name is Omosh, is the guy from ICC that is taking us everywhere and he...

Got the Time?

There is a saying here in Africa… “you may have a watch, but we got the time.”  There is almost no concept of time here unless it’s Sunday, and I love it.  It is really laid-back and our contacts are completely sold out for Christ and His work.    We just finished with our second day of ministry, the first few days after our arrival were spent doing some cultural training and team building activities.  Our first day of ministry we went into the streets and began street witnessing around the church that we are serving at, called ICC...

Children Steal My Heart

I sit right now in a small internet cafe unlike any in the USA.  Out of the 8 computers only about 4 or 5 work and mine already had to be restarted once so hopefully I’ll be able to post this. Yesterday, I worked with the toddlers at ICC (the church), and the toddlers are 3-5 yr olds.  I noticed 2 main things: kenyan children are much more disciplined than american children (when told once they do it immediately) and teachers use basically no physical touch….only high-fives.  Yesterday, Sunday, prepared me for today when I taught about 20 3-6 yr olds at a school in Eastleigh....
