i know it’s late, but happy father’s day dad! you are the best and i love you and miss you so much!   i have to be quick:   we went to the slums and played with children in a school there. never in my life have i seen such hopelessness. but God is sovereign and i have to keep remembering that. He has been answering prayers, i notice as i read back over journal entries. He is giving me ideas about what to do when i get home. i’m pretty excited! been playing lots of guitar and singing all the time. we washed our clothes by hand. i will never again take a washing...

Pray without ceasing

Sa Sa!   Last week we took a break from teaching at the KAG school and went on a prayer walk through a place called Eastleigh. “Little Somalia” is also another name for Eastleigh because it is highly populated with Muslims.  A small group of us went through this area on a prayer walk.  We walked through many mud puddles, trash piles, and exhaust  from the cars going past.  We had many interesting looks from the people of the area and got to evangelize some.  We got to the hub, the heartbeat, of the town and stopped on a corner.  We got in a...

Eastleigh and Kiserian

So in my last post I talked about Hillary….come to find out her name is actually Gertrude.  Her brother is named Hillary so when I asked him what his little sister’s name was, he answered his own.  We got to go to her “house” in the slum next to the school.  It is near Eastleigh, and Gertrude’s mother has 3 children of her own.  She also takes care of 5 other children that were her sister who was beaten to death.  So all 8 children and this lady live in a room about 5′ x 8′ no lie.  They must sleep on top of each other...

Meet Bosco

Bosco is a little boy from the school we worked at last week. He is young, in the baby class so he is some where around the age of 4. He is the cutest little boy in the world. We bonded over tickling to start. I was assigned to help in the kitchen on the second day and as I was peeling potatoes he came up. We started playing. I would tell him to lift his hands up and then I would tickle him. This went on for a while before he realized he could get me back. This was the start of our friendship. After lunch was chill time. Bosco found me again. I had no idea at the time that it was the same...

Slum

Last Tuesday, June 15th, I took my first trip into the slums. This time around we weren’t going to be doing any intentional evangelizing, but just getting a feel for it. Lets take a few steps back. Woke up in the morning, got on the bus, drove on a long, bumpy road, and saw a new part of Nairobi. Almost everyone here walks. There are a lot of cars, but many more pedestrians than vehicles. A lot of guys pull these carts full of miscellaneous items along the road. The best way I can describe them are like miniature trailers, but a man pulling them instead of a vehicle. Piles of burning...

Child Like Faith

One thing we have done so far is work in one of the local schools.  We learned to make chipote, taught math, english, and other subjects to the children, and we played with the children.  One girl named Janet was sad each and every day that we left, but I was overjoyed with meeting and loving on the children.  Most of the children lived in the slum near by, which we got to visit a few of the families and hear their stories. One of the three days we were at the school, I pulled out my bible and started reading.  As I was reading, a little boy came over and...
