Power In The Name

I've always known that God works miracles but I never thought I would be witness to ones as tangible as what is happening here. Throughout the week we had been going to the hospital to pray and talk with the patients. On Wednesday the group that I was with was going through the men's surgical ward. At the very end of the ward we came to a room where a man was lying unconcious with his wife by his side. The wife explained to us that the man had suffered from a stroke and was now in a coma. She told us how difficult it was because she was unable to be home with her children...

Break My Heart For What Breaks Yours.

Everyday this past week we were blessed with the opportunity to visit the local hospital here in Busia. I have prayed the past few months for God to prepare my heart for everything I may encounter while in Kenya but nothing could have prepared me for this. My heart raced before I entered the first unit and, of course, my group was assigned the children’s ward. As I walked into the open and poorly lit room, I felt a heavy burden lay upon me. The nursing student inside of me immediately started pointing out everything I wanted to fix and do for the patients. Some beds had up to 4...

I Got Fleas

Ok, so I just lost y long blog I wrote cause the page exited and I only have a few minutes, so yall get the half-way decent short version.  Africa is awesome and beautiful! We got to see and go through The Great Rift Valley which was incredible! The plane rides to here weren't too bad, but after 24 hours, I was happy to be done flying. The hostel we stayed in in Nairobi was incredible! We had hot showers, toilets, beds, and awesome food.. And I got fleas. Yay! I made my first African friend there, Dan, and I helped him sweep and he taught me Swahili. The second night we were here...

Habari (The Real Hello)

After 24 hours on planes and nearly 50 total travel hours, we are finally made it! On Thursday we finally got off the plane and came to our hostile. Milimani Backpackers, which we would be living in for the next two days (three nights) in Nairobi. We felt like kings here! We had bunkbeds, hot water running water for showers, amazing food, and even a television (which we watched part of a very scratchy and probably bootlegged version of the Lion King on)! Unfortunately, we were restricted to our cozy little compound and were only allowed to visit a small internet cafe called the Java House...

The MZUNGU’s are here!!!

Well, we made it to africa! It took a long 30 something hours on planes and in airports, but we finally made it. Africa is so beautiful. Our first 2 days were spent in Nairobi in the most amazing hostel in the world. Its called the Milimani Backpacker, and I love it. Our days in Nairobi were limited to the hostel, and coffee shop down the street because of safety reasons. Interesting fact about Africa, when you order a coke they ask you if you want it hot or cold. I didn’t know people would actually choose to drink hot coke? I enjoyed every single minute of our time in Nairobi, and...

EAT FASTER!!!!!!

Our first full day here in Busia was a Sunday, which means church! After a long night Pastor told us we could sleep in and miss prayer from 6am to 7am which we were all thankful for. After getting ready to go to church we found out that 2 of us had to stay behind at the home to watch our stuff. Kim and I were the ones to volunteer. We were initially disappointed to miss our first experience at our new church, but the first thing we did was pray together, we prayed for our team, and we also prayed for good attitudes and we got them! We had such an awesome day here at the home. We had tea...
