arrived in Kenya

Hello family and friends of Team Kenya.  We just wanted to let you know that we received a call from the leaders and the team has made it safely to Kenya.  They are with their host in Kijabe and all is well. We look forward to hearing from them in a few days once they get settled in.  Thank you for your prayers and support for them.

Changes

(This is a painting our team made to express what God was putting our hearts when we thought of the nation of Kenya.) When I arrived in Atlanta, I could not wait for the training to get over and get to Kenya.  I just wanted to get there and begin the journey God had in store for me.  I felt prepared to do what God was asking of me and was ready to see how God was going to change me through the experience.  Therefore, I looked at training as a means to an end.  At first I was not thrilled about it.  We did things that got me out of my comfort zone and I did not see...

First impressions

Hello, We finally leave tomorrow for africa, which is pretty exciting, but i’ll give a quick recap of what has happened so far. We arrived in Atlanta and almost immediately went out onto the streets to just be with the homeless people. I was expecting to be talking to dozens of them, so when we walked around for several hours having only one meaningful conversation I was a little disappointed. After my groups debrief I realized this is what the trip is going to be like, long hours, a lot of walking, just for the chance to talk to one person.    We only stayed in Atlanta one...

I’m PURE?

24 more hours. It’s so surreal. The moment I’ve been waiting for for months on end is finally here. May I first begin by attempting to express my love for these 10 other young people that I have the honor of calling my teammates. If I honestly get to spend 3 months with these people, every hour of every day, I don’t think I could ever get tired of it. God has specifically placed each one of them on this team with me for a reason and every 24 hours I get to spend with them, I begin to realize what that purpose is. The girls are unified sisters. The boys, our protectors and...

My First Adventure

My first couple days of training camp have been full of many new experiences. From rolling my two suitcases down the streets of Atlanta, to being spit in the face by the “natives” we were attempting to evangelize to, its been real fun to say the least.  One of our first true tasks at training camp though was to go out and evangelize to people on the streets. It was really the first challenge we had to start stepping out of our boxes and doing things most of our group had never done before.  We were split up into small groups and eventually given a dollar that we...

Stealing joy.

To say that I have gone on an adventure would be an understatement. From the moment I arrived God has shown up in all sorts of ways. To make a long story short: Marta. Heavy luggage. Safe house of Atlanta. Ministering until 2:15 in the morning. God showed up! On our second night I wasn’t whole heartedly worshipping like I normally do. I had taken some time to pray but wasn’t getting anywhere until one of the staff, Michelle came and started praying and singing over me. She then told me that something was affecting my worship and I had no idea what. Seeking further I found that...
