Giving it up

Greetings from Nairobi on our off day! The past two weeks consisted of a variety of ministries. Two weeks ago we spent a week in an IDP camp helping out a medical team from America. I got to play pharmacist for a week which was great because that's what I wanted to do in 11th grade. Then I took chemistry and realized that such a vigorous education should not be required to count pills. I'm living proof that you can be horrible at high school chemistry and still be a pharmacist. Anyway, this past week was spent in the Masai village. We definitely had our work cut out for us there....

Fellow Workers for the Truth

I have enjoyed very much being a part of all these peoples lives so far for these short two months. My name is Jonathan Beckman and I am the leader, along with Logan, for the Kenya, Mombasa (Mpeketoni) trip. I was on the World Race, an 11 month trip with Adventures In Missions (AIM), prior to this trip. I was at the end of my race, in the last month before going home, when I decided to lead with AIM for this trip now. It was a tough decision to make because I knew that I wouldn't be able to spend a lot of time back home with my family and friends, but I...

He WAS a Muslim

A couple of weeks ago Lynden, Ari, and I with our translator Caleb were walking through the town trying to build relationships with the people here. We walked past a man sitting in front of his barbershop, we stopped and shook his hand and asked if we could talk with him. HIS NAME WAS ESSA. He seemed reluctant to speak with us at first and asked if we could meet later in a different location. There was a strange understanding between us all about what we would talk about later. We knew that he was a Muslim but we never mentioned that we were Christians and that’s what we wanted to...

Watching from the sidelines of God’s playing field

Oh heyyyyy! So many things have happened since I’ve last blogged! God is working in our hearts as a team and individually. I came here expected big, tangible changes of the Holy Spirit. Now I’m sitting in Africa seeing big, subtle changes. Through door-to-door, relationships with our African brothers and sisters, interacting with the kids, and learning to seek Christ as a group, God has taught me that a relationship with Him requires discipline, patience, and a focused ear to hear His gentle voice. Last week, Devan, Victoria, James, and I met an old man named Joseph. He has...

Chains be broken, lives be healed!

This week has brought forth every emotion in the book. There are so many things I want to write about but there are two stories that have captured my heart and have drawn me to tears this past week. Elizabeths story: During house to house visits two of my teammates and I met a woman by the name of Elizabeth. We began talking to her and found out that she stopped going to church 5 years ago due to events that happened in her life. Her countanence was downcast and despair was radiating from her soul. Her eyes were full of sorrow and would hardly make eye contact with any of us. So, we prayed...

A Life is Restored!!

I didn't really know what to expect when my team arrived in the village of the Masai and Trukana people. Dirt roads, kids with no shoes, mud houses that are smaller than my bathroom back at home…The proverty you see on tv was right in front of my eyes. I was honestly speechless and couldnt really understand or even begin to comprehend why life is like this, but i knew i had a purpose. I knew that God sent me to these people all i had to do was wait to see how i was going to be used. Our ministry for the week consisted of door-to-door envangalizing, church ministry, as well as...
