We arrived in Kajabe only to pack our things for two weeks and head to Tangi Tatu, home of the Massai poeple. It was an unexpected adventure, but it was for the best. Tangi Tatu is full of amazing people who would do anything for you, including using the last of their supplies to make you tea. Its interesting that we came here to serve, but we've been served just as much. It was also a really great opportunity to grow. In two weeks, I've already changed so much. I went from being the girl who was afraid to give a 5 minute speech, to teaching two, fourty minute classes. We've also done a lot of door to door ministry, just spending time with the people and learning about them and their culture. Its incredible how much just sitting there and giving your time means to them.
Something that I've realized though, is that you don't always see immediate results with the things that you're doing. But you never know what seeds you've planted and what may come of the things you've done, even after you're gone. Seing immidiate effects though, is absolutely the most rewarding thing possible. Its something that you'll never forget, and something that you can never fully discribe to anyone. We met an old woman named Elizabeth one day when we were doing our door to door ministry. She was working in a field and she started crying almost immediately after we went up to talk to her. We learned that her husband and son had died and that her other children lived too far away to visit her. All she had was her sons farm. She was completely alone and in no condition to be farming. We all gave her our lunches, our encouragement and our prayers, because that was all we had but I've never seen anyone so grateful for anything. As we were leaving I saw her sitting under a tree, eating, and raising her hands and rejoicing, just for something so simple. We realized that what we were doing was making a difference. And it was absolutely worth it.
