Hello from Georgia everyone!
I’m so excited to write my first blog! So the first night we stayed in Atlanta and I definitely got more than I expected.
First regret: packing a bag that is bigger than I am and finding out soon after arriving that I will actually be carrying it through the streets of hot and humid Atlanta. (I guess you were right about the packing too much thing Mom)
After walking we arrived at a place called the Safehouse and were then told we would be going out into the streets of Atlanta that night to talk to/pray/hang out with the homeless. Our team split into two groups and went on our way (little reminder: I’m a small town girl, I’ve never spent really more than a day in a big city, and definitely not at night). After being out there for a few hours we were headed back in the direction of the Safehouse. In the last couple minutes I had just asked God to lead me because I honestly had no idea what I was doing. As I looked up I made eye contact with an older man and just felt compelled to stop. So I asked him what his name was and his eyes lit up as he told me Daniel. Daniel Wise. The rest of the team stopped and as we were talking with him, he spoke truth into each of our lives and basically told us each who we were and who were are in Christ. Let me tell you.. it was awesome! He told us that “the people in Kenya are waiting for you guys”. I’d never really thought about it that way before. The people in Kenya are waiting for hope, and that is what we bring through Christ.
We asked Daniel if we could pray with him and we all grabbed hands and before we knew it he was praying over us. Once we finished we opened our eyes to find another man, ben, standing outside our circle. He told us what he had been going through and how he had come downstairs outside of his hotel, and found us praying, and he saw a light around us. We prayed for him, and before we knew it, another man, Ken, walked by and asked if we were praying because he said he could really use some. The circle kept growing! It was so awesome to see that no place is out of reach of God. I would have never thought that one of the most spiritual men i’ve ever met, I found living homeless on the streets of Atlanta, and that he would speak truth into all of us. He told me I was bold in my faith, a warrior. And that’s what we need to be for Christ because they ARE waiting for us.
love and miss you all 🙂
Sarah
p.s- pray that I can get over this cold I have before we leave for Kenya!
