Smiles

These past three weeks have been some of the hardest days of my life. I hae experienced life on a whole new level. I have discovered how much growing I still have to do within myself and in God. But he is forever patient, kind and is willing to wait for me to fully trust in him. My journey began by landing in the Narobi airport. We were greated by pastor Simon after 20 hours of travel. We all crammed in a van and drove another hour to Kijabi on a bumpy road through the night. I was so nervous and scared as to where we would end up. We arrived at a big brick building with three tents set up inside. We were told we would be here for one night and then would be spending the next two weeks with the Tangi Tatu tribe. All the girls decided to sleep in one tent, rather then the three we were given. I was surrounded by all the love I needed in that moment. The next day we were told by our leaders, Nikki and Neal, that it would be more then just one tribe for 2 weeks, but 3 tribes- 2 weeks each. For a total of 6 weeks. This totally terrified me.

We drove about 3 hours to the tribe the next day, and arrived at night. Children greated us before we were even off the van. The next morning I woke up to the green pastures, corn fields and bean fields surrounding our tents. It was the more beautiful place I have ever seen.

I was still scared, and nervous and so afraid of the unknown. Our team began ministry by doing door to door ministry, and by door to door, I mean door-separated by mile-door. My feet have carried me for miles each day, preaching and praying to the friendly strangers of Kenya. Many of them offer us Cha tea, and corn. We as a team brough 17 people to Jesus. While the people of Kenya have been so welcoming, its the childrens smiles that make me realize we are here to not only TELL them about Jesus, but to SHOW them Jesus' love.

One of the first schools we went to was an hours walk from camp down a dird road. We were greated with children running down the road, most with no shoes and their matching uniforms hardly sustaining their bodies, but the smiles never left their face. It wasn't until a little boy, probably around the age of 7 ran up to me and grabbed my hand. He had the biggest smile I have ever seen. He didn't ask for my money, or my things; it was the touch of my hand that brought job to this little boys life. I don't know his name, nor will I ever, and I probably won't see  him again in my life, but it was in that moment I knew that God wanted me to be here, away from my family, friends, boyfriend, and comfort zone. I can't wait to see what other smiles God is going to bring me and the people that surround me, but I'm beyond excited!
