Life lesson 1: Always close all flaps and zippers to your tent.

HI HI!

GEORGIA! Yay! Claire and I arrived in Atlanta Friday afternoon to find our Kenya team there! We met our new family for the next two months and really…the rest of our lives. We have all become so close already and the team dynamic is really working out in our favor! Praise Jesus for new friendships and life long memories that are already being made. In preparation for Kenya we are: tenting outside in the hot and humid Georgia heat, eating ethnic food from different countries (some I like annnnd some….not so much. But, I am embracing it), taking COLD showers from water hoses with a tablecloth as a shower curtain, and learning about Kenya’s culture. I have already grown so much mentally, relationally, and spiritually in the last four days. I have grown a lot in my relationship with my Father because He is DEF-I-NATE-LY taking me out of my comfort zone. My safe zone. God has revealed to me that He cares more about my character than my comfort.  On this trip He is stripping me of my comfortable lifestyle so that I am able to grow and become more of the woman He wants me to become. I have also learned that when He takes away my comfort it doesn’t mean that He doesn’t love me, care for me, or have my best interest in mind. It actually means the opposite.  My Father loves me deeply, cares for me infinitely, and wants the ABSOLUTE best in mind. He has the grand plan in mind and even though I might me uncomfortable at the moment….or two months…the Amy that I will be at the end is going to be a woman more after God’s heart.

FUNNY THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED:
1. There was a torrential down pour last night while we were in our evening session and Claire and I left a flap open on our tent…needless to say there were puddles in our tent and I slept with a partially wet sleeping bag.
2. I ate some sort of salad that included: lettuce, green beans, carrots, corn, cabbage, yogurt, mayo, and lots a pepper. After about two bites…I decided that my taste buds were not enjoying it.
3. I have never been so happy to eat a hot dog in my whole life for lunch yesterday.
4. Showering with only a plastic table cloth covering you is really hard…especially when the wind blows!
5. Rolling up my sleeping bag requires at least 10 minutes…makes me sweat.

I can’t wait to get to Kenya after a long day(s) of travel starting tomorrow!

Hi Mom and Dad and brother and sister and maggie and nat! Miss you!
Love you all and peace be the journey,
Amy Jo =]
