Gone Fishin’

Greetings all,

It has only been six days and I am completely in love with Kenya.  My team.. I mean family is amazing and the people here are so welcoming! So quick updates: WE ARE NOT IN TENTS!!! We are living at Wildlife Camps of Kenya, we have all the girls in one room and the guys in the other.  We have beds, bathrooms, and running water (sometimes.)  Regardless our living situation is a complete blessing.  Our host church, the ICC (international christian centere), is an amazing place full of people with the a heart for the Lord.  It is truly a God thing!

This week has mainly been a week of adjustments, trying to adjust to Kenyan time, culture, and language but now we are getting the hang of things.  So ICC has begun to provide us with mission oppritunities.  On Saturday we were challenged to hit the streets to invite everyone to watch the World Cup games on the big screen at the ICC but more than that we were challenged to lead people to Christ.  It was a situation that provided a lot of anxiety for me.  ‘I don’t speak their language, and I don’t want to make them feel uncomfortable’  but our leader Joseph (Omosh) had other plans.  He began talking to this one man and almost as soon as the conversation started Omosh was leading the man to Christ.  Omosh grabbed me by the arm and said ‘Liz pray for this man to accept Christ.’…. I have to admit I freaked out a little bit, but threw a quick prayer up to God to provide the right words, laid my hand upon the man and allowed God to speak.  That day that man accepted Christ, and I had a major part in it.  Later we find out the group commited six more people to Christ.  A total of 7 fish caught that day.  We were reminded that in these streets and in everyday life God has called us to be FISHERS OF MEN.   I challenge you to not merely hear the words of Christ but to put them into action.  God calls each one of us everyday to be fishers of men and awkward moments, uncomfortable situations, and a loss of words will all be handled by God.  May God continue to have His blessing upon the lives of my teammates and of my family back home.

I love you mom, dad, Thomas, and Olivia.

Blessings,
Elizabeth “Liz” Brantley
