Jambo! (Swahili for Hello)
My team and I have spent the last three and a half days in Georgia being equipped with the training and knowledge that we are going to make a lasting impact in Kenya. The last few days have been eye-opening and spiritually challenging, as I have had to deal with many areas of my life I had yet to fully surrender to the Lord. I have been keeping a journal and each day writing a list of cool things that we did each day….and I seriously have filled it UP! When first arriving at Atlanta, I was able to meet the rest of the team and we were able to spend some time laughing, eating pizza and getting to know each other. It’s been AMAZING to see how the Lord has answered the prayer of team unity already. It is so early in this journey, but I seriously feel like I’ve known these people for so much longer and I can’t wait to learn more from them.
The first night we spent the night at the SafeHouse (a homeless shelter in downtown Atlanta) and we had a crazy awesome night of worship and we went out and prayed over the streets of Atlanta and blessed some individuals with the simple gift of a dollar. We met a lot of individuals, and was able to buy dinner for a special homeless individual named Eddie. Our team was also able to sing the song “How He Loves” with some other homeless individuals. The words of the song are so meaningful and the night just showed me how much the Lord has in store for us this summer!
We have learned about surrendering, we have learned about the cultures we will encounter, and we have learned about the power of the Lord living IN US. Our team has eaten our first African dish (ugali and poki or sometime of dish that sounded like that), our team has slept in our tents (Amy Jo and I also learned to not leave the rain flap down….because you NEVER know exactly when its going to downpour in Georgia…), and our team is PUMPED to get started working for God’s glory in Kenya.
We are spending the night tonight in the airport and starting our journey bright and early tomorrow morning. Thank you for the prayers already! Please pray for safety, our ministry contacts, and that all our bags make it!
Peace & blessings,
🙂 claire
