Gone Fishin’

Greetings all,      It has only been six days and I am completely in love with Kenya.  My team.. I mean family is amazing and the people here are so welcoming! So quick updates: WE ARE NOT IN TENTS!!! We are living at Wildlife Camps of Kenya, we have all the girls in one room and the guys in the other.  We have beds, bathrooms, and running water (sometimes.)  Regardless our living situation is a complete blessing.  Our host church, the ICC (international christian centere), is an amazing place full of people with the a heart for the Lord.  It is...

Got the Time?

There is a saying here in Africa… “you may have a watch, but we got the time.”  There is almost no concept of time here unless it’s Sunday, and I love it.  It is really laid-back and our contacts are completely sold out for Christ and His work.    We just finished with our second day of ministry, the first few days after our arrival were spent doing some cultural training and team building activities.  Our first day of ministry we went into the streets and began street witnessing around the church that we are serving at, called ICC...

I love you Newton

Hey everyone!!!  Time for an update!!  Right now we are taking turns using computers at an internet cafe.  This place is amazing!!!  Before the trip I felt nervous about coming.  I mean I knew that this is where the Lord was calling me, but every moment spent here, ever new voice that graces my ears, reassures me more and more that this is the right place.  Today we went and taught English and a little math to children in all years of primary school (the USA equivelant of everything before high school).  Claire and I ended up working with 9 and 10 year...

Mondazis

Sasa! Habari Yako? Muzuri Sana!    Yes, I have been learning swahili. One of the many many things I have been learning this past week! My goal is to become fluent 🙂 I have had a great past week! The LORD has blessed us with a hostel type building that we sleep in (no tents–don’t worry Kenzie, we are still going to be using them later this summer!) and a wonderful man named Patrick from the church who has been making us food. We also have been able to watch the World Cup, which is part of the sports ministry that ICC (the church we have partnered with) provides. Earlie...

Monkeys and Blessings

Drew Hulsey Monkeys and Blessings Kenya has been amazing so far. The people are so awesome and so very kind. God has given us way more than we need. We arrived thinking we would be sleeping in tents but ended up in a secure compound (kind of like dorms)with beds, a few miles away from the church. Also the church has hooked with a awesome cook called Patrick, who is so humble and can cook the best meals ever, needless to say we do eat very well. But not only do we have a cook, not only do we have beds, we have monkeys in our backyard. They are fun to watch, I’m such a white...
