Massai tribe-ing it up

HELLO FRIENDS AND FAMILY! Stuff is going well in Kenya. We started planting a church last week. The team and I tore down the old church(kind of sad because it was an awesome shed looking church) and cleared rocks out of the way. We have been doing some heavy duty little construction by hand. The little town we are planting the church in is called Kiserian about 20 minutes from Nairobi. The town is full of donkeys and the Massai tribe. The best part of ministering in Kiserian so far is that one of the Massai tribe whos name is Isaiah(pronounced E-sigh-a) randomly showed up to our work sight...

Isn’t that beautiful?

This week we did a lot of work in a place called Kiserian, which is about a 25 minute drive from where we are staying in Nairobi at the Kenya Nature Center Hostel.  A part of what we did was start a new church (ICC Kiserian), and we even visited a close by Masai village.  Nathan, one of the members on our team, created a special bond with one of the Masai members (one of the tribes that lives in what we as Americans view Africa as being-all green with acacia trees everywhere, it was beautiful!).  The Masai member, Isaiah, then invited us all to come and eat with him...

AFRICA!!!!!!!!!!

What a wonderful day! I am striving to be a warrior for Christ. I am learning to rejoice like Paul through the lies that satan throws my way. God has been revealing so many wonderful things and I can tell that the evil one doesn’t like it. But as scripture says, this gives me that much more of a reason to rejoice in Christ name!! While I am here in Kenya I feel so blessed because one of the things I get to do is hug on kids all the time. It’s been a blessing and a challenge to figure out how to show love and interact with the little kids without using words. (Because they...

We Are Hungry For More Of You

Africa has been amazing so far! It is completely different from what I expected. I guess I based what I thought Africa would be like from the Lion King. However, I have yet to see a lion and parts of the country are fairly urbanized. Even though they drive on the opposite side of the road and have limited road rules the city of Nairobi is similar to the U.S. but the slums are another story. Families of ten live in shacks smaller than my dorm room. Most of the houses were held up by rusted tin and cardboard , forcing you to hear every sound your neighbor makes. Also there was trash and...

Mihari Slums

Its been a week since I went to the slums, and the stuff I saw hasn’t really my head. As we were walking in the first thing we saw was a dead man in a street who had died of an overdose on pure alcohol. I was like “what the he have I gotten my self into God”. As we walked further into the slum we stepped over trails pf sewage and dodging little kids screaming “How are you”? Wed did a house visit or a woman who lived in a 9×9 shack with 8 kids. She has 3 of her own and takes care her murdered sisters other 5 children. Wow. I was stunned. God broke me in...
