A Heart Broken

This is Africa. It is a saying very common here. A saying that means what you see is what you get. That “it is what it is”. Well I will not accept that. Not for one second. As you may well know, this place needs help. And it needs people ready to join the fight to help. People willing to get dirty and not watch from the sidelines anymore.
These people here are poor. On average, they live off of maybe 1000 shillings a week. That is a little under 10 American dollars. And this is just the few who work. Most people make their living by waking up everyday and working the fields. They drink water that is filled with bacteria and diseases because it is mixed with their sewage and they have no other option. The police have been corrupted and oppress the locals to make a buck. The kids walk around 1-2 miles to school every morning and then back home, most with no shoes. Some of these kids run to our house because they know they can get a meal for the first time in days. When sick or injured, they go to a hospital that makes my heart snap in half thinking about it. People who would be in and out in America but die here from colds and simple treatable things. People kill each other over things that we throw away at home. People who, for the most part, have no future. The only thing they think about is getting by to the next day. And yet somehow they have faith. They have faith that there is something else, something more. They sing, and they dance like they have no cares.
So, here we are. I don’t want this to be another feel sorry for Africa infomercial. But, I want you to take one second to look at what we/you have then think of these people. Think of what I just said. Think of what we complain about. Are we truly doing all we can to help? Or just enough to make us feel good about stroking our selfish egos? I, along with many others, have given their life to help these people. To show them there is a God aching to help them, aching to know them. Will you let yourself pray just for 5 minutes and see how YOU can help? Whatever it is, we need it over here! Just because something is the way it is, doesn’t mean it is the way it should be. . And seeing what I have seen, it is my responsibility now.  It is time to get off the sidelines and join in on the game. So join me, join the fight in helping make this is a better place. My heart is shattered for these people Because I, Ben Moore, know that victory is coming. Jesus told me so.
