5 things you don’t see in America

Hey everyone,

Were going on I think week 4 in Kenya and so far its been awesome. Our team has been doing some pretty amazing things. We have been in the Kijabe Hospital and been able to watch a surgery standing right next to the bed. We caught a goat, held its four legs down and killed it, then later on we ate the meat from its head… We have done some new and interesting things to say the least.

Lately, we have been going to a place called the IDP Camp. It somewhat resembles a refugee camp because the people who are living there were forced out of there homes because of their specific tribe that they were in. It’s something I have never experienced before. We come there usually to pray with the people, maby sing some songs and pass out food. Many of the kids there usually eat once or twice a week. One family we met consisted of 4 children that were being taken care of by their 14 year old sister. Both of their parents just left all of them there to fend for themselves.

Our plan now is to fast every lunch and save enough money to go out to this IDP camp and feed these people as much food as we can. God has really been putting these people on my heart and I’m glad that we can do something to better these people’s situation. Our plan now is to visit the IDP camp and the hospital every other day.

To end on a good note I decided to make a list of 5 things that we have experienced here in Kenya that typically you would never see in America…
1. squatty potties(toilets consisting of basically a whole in the ground)
2. chicken back packs(people holding a bunch of chickens behind their head trying to sell them)
3. ugali(basically looks like mash potatoes, but tastes like nothing)
4. kid shepards(kids that are as old as my 8 year old brother hurding sheep/goats)
5. dog haters(everyone hates dogs here, I don’t know why but they always kick them, so sad…)
