The final tribe of our trip was Pokot. It was a 12 hour drive to pretty much the middle of nowhere. It was a warm welcome from the Pastor Moses and some of the church members as soon as we got there. We learned that we would be teaching in the schools for the two weeks we would be there, as well as doing some door to door, and helping with the church programs. We started teaching the second day we were there, and I got to teach 6th and 7th grade math with Allegra. While we were there, I was very challenged to find ministry opportunities no matter what we were doing, and to be obedient to God when I knew there was something he wanted me to do. As a result, I built some awesome relationships with some of the girls in the church that also attended the school we were teaching at. I got to encourage them and just be an example to them. Before we left, I felt the need to write them all notes encouraging them and just telling them to trust God for all their needs because they really do have a lot of needs in Pokot. Because of it being so far away from any civilization, they have no medical facilities. They also have a lot of illegal tribal traditions that they practice, and they get away with it because there is no one to enforce the laws there. They practice female circumcision, as well as polygamy and arranged marriages. We saw a huge change in the village just in the few days we were there, though. And we know that through prayer, the village will change even further, and the church will be the start of that change.
