Shopping

I never want to shop again…. going to a market is so stressful.  (Mom, you would have a migraine for weeks)  We went to a Maasai market, kind of like a flea market feeling, yesterday.  It was in the parking lot.  We walk up to a sea of vendors… and immediately everyone starts calling me over… “Sister, come come.”  “I give you good price.”  At first I was very interested and listening to what everyone said to me… but after 3 different people all telling me I was their first customer and trying to charge me 3x the worth I was drained.  I am not a fan of Kenyan shopping, but by the end of the day I started getting better at it.

Today we went to another market in the city and I traded some of my skirts, my comb, pens (good idea dad, and dont worry, I gave all the pencils to the school), bandana, and other random things for some earrings and other things.  In the end its just trading my junk for their junk… but its all part of the experience, i guess.  It’s easy to loose track of what you came to buy and what you’re giving up for the product, that in most cases, you didn’t even want.  I almost got 2 Maasai sticks in exchange for my hand in marriage… but after taking a step back from the offer I realized it probably wouldn’t be a good trade.  I ended up making a few Kenyan friends in the market though… they really like to talk.  I’m hoping to bargain away the rest of my unneeded things before we go back… to make room in my suitcase for all the Kenyan “treasures” I got.

I love you Mom, Dad, Michael, Christina, Monica, Chris, Christopher, and Ava!!!!  I can’t wait to hear Ava laugh and see her little smile.  I’ll be home so soon, its crazy!
