Rich in Faith

Hebrews 13:2: “Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it.”

This past week we had the opportunity to go to the IDP camp located in the Rift Valley. And I can say without a doubt, I am falling in love with the people there! The first time we went, which was Saturday, I was greeted by a 12 year old girl named Emily. I attempted to make conversation with her and much to my surprise, she spoke English very well! She had a smile that shined for miles and for some reason she became attached to me almost the second I met her. Emily and her best friend, Cecilia, wanted to take Hannah and I to their homes. When we got to Cecilia’s home, they started braiding our hair and giving us hair clips with colorful braids attached to them to put in our hair. Not only that, but they brought out nail polish to paint our nails! All I wanted to do was take them to a store and let them pick out anything they wanted! These precious girls had close to nothing, but they wanted to share everything they had with us.

After we met Cecilia’s wonderful Grandma, Rosemary, we headed to Emily’s house. Once we got there we were greeted by Emily’s Mom, Mary, who gave me the best smile and hug I’ve probably ever received 🙂 She didn’t stop smiling the whole time we were there. We had accumulated a following of about eight children by the time we made it to her house. Even after we declined, Mary insisted we eat the food she had prepared. Not only did she serve us beans and fresh avocado, but every other kid with us as well. When we prayed for Mary she asked that we pray that God will provide money for food for her kids. We of course felt so bad! I have never felt so blessed to meet someone who is so rich is faith. She lived out Hebrews 13:2 better than I’ve ever seen in my life. She had literally nothing to offer us, but wanted to give us anything and everything she had. I’ve never seen such genuine generosity. I left her house knowing that I had just met one of God’s angels. The bible says the rich in faith will inherit the Kingdom of God, and I know one day, Mary with be rejoicing with her Daddy God in Heaven.

The next time we came back, which was Tuesday, Emily found me right away and gave me a note she had made which basically said how thankful she was that I was one of her best friends and how much I have helped her and loved her. I almost started crying right in front of her because it was one of the nicest things anyone had ever said to me and I had only met her once. It goes to show, you never know who’s life you’re impacting. I can’t wait to go back on Saturday and hang out with Emily. She is becoming and will be one of my best friends for the rest of my life.

Just remember, you never know when you’re entertaining angels, or ever Jesus Christ himself. Would you give up everything you had to a stranger? Would you give it up for anyone?

The return of Christ is now. Don’t wait for tomorrow.

Much love,
🙂 Sarah
