Life in the Bush

These past 2 weeks have been spent with our last tribe in Pokot. Pokot is really close to the equator and is definitly more of what I pictured Africa as. Just think Lion King and you got Pokot. Minus all the lions and hyenas. There are camels everywhere, thorns, mountains, rocks, and dirt. The stars at night are beyond amazing and worship underneath them is even more incredible! It was about a 12 hour drive to get there in a matatu on a bumpy, rocky road. We finally made it with some sore backs and bottoms!

We have had many firsts while we were there. My first time milking a camel and goat. My first time eating goat meat that my own teammates, Colton and Kirsten butchered. My first parasite, which was not a pleasant experience, but I am better now!

We were helping out Pastor Musa and his church in Pokot. Our main ministry was teaching at a school. I taught English 4 and 8 with Emily C. I guess I am qualified to teach here in Africa! We also did some door to door evangalism and visited a few schools.

The first full day there, Pastor Musa's wife gave birth to a son! They named him Neal after our fearless leader. We also went to another wedding that took place right in our backyard. A 16 year old girl was getting married to a 40 or 50 year old man as his fifth wife. Her wedding was only her second time seeing him. She saw him when he had to pay the dowlroy to marry her. All the married men in the wedding party had these tall white feathers on their heads. Everyone was just singing and dancing while the bride was just sitting in the hut with the women on the wedding party. It was really sad seeing someone not excited on their wedding day.

A lady also got bit by a poisenous snake while we were there, so Nikki cut the ladies hand open to get the poisen out. It was definitely a God thing that Pastor Simon left his truck behind with us. God obviously knew in advance that we would need it to transport this lady to the hospital. She got medicine in her and started to feel better! Through this experience, the lady came to church!God did alot while we were in Pokot! Please continue to keep praying for us while we travel to Uganda and complete our ministry in Kijabe!
