Dearest Gladys

Gladys is a Pokot. She is 15 years old and is a mother 3 already. Her oldest is 4 years a old! Her husband is 45 olds and Gladys is not his only wife.

She would wake up at 5 in the morning or earlier to fetch water. All morning long till 10 am or so, she would continue going back and forth from the river so we would have water. She is so young yet so strong!

One day, her children found their way to where we were staying. Gladys came abruptly  and pulled her kids aside. It was weird to see a 15 year
old punish her 4 year old son. She herself  was still a child and was disciplining a child . My heart broke as I watched this scene. I couldn't get over the fact she was so young, married with children and that she work so hard everyday!

It is a  Pokot tradition that the wife's job is to take care of the children, look after the goats, fetch water, look after the crops and take care of her husband… Unbelieveable!
One day I got to sit down with Gladys and just be teenage friends. Even though we didn't speak the same language  I loved sitting with her and making  her laugh.

I cannot wait to see Gladys again someday. I pray God, that you have gotten ahold of her heart and she truly believes how much she is loved by the king! God pour strength over her and help her to be satisfied in you alone. Reveal your purpose for her life. God, I thank you for her servants heart and her motherly care. Without you God she is weak so be her strength. Consume her every thought and fill her up with more of you. Even when she is lonely and scared be close to her and let her know you care.
