One thing we have done so far is work in one of the local schools. We learned to make chipote, taught math, english, and other subjects to the children, and we played with the children. One girl named Janet was sad each and every day that we left, but I was overjoyed with meeting and loving on the children. Most of the children lived in the slum near by, which we got to visit a few of the families and hear their stories. One of the three days we were at the school, I pulled out my bible and started reading. As I was reading, a little boy came over and looked over my shoulder at what I was doing. Interested, he sat down in the chair next to me and started reading what I was reading. I was reading in Romans about the mark of a true chrisitan. He mouthed the words out as he was reading, and even though he was 7 years old, he read every bit of it. I nearily cried right then and there because it was so precious how he was reading along with me about what it means to be a christian. After about five minutes of reading, he looked up, and we started talking about what he read. He stated,”It means not to steal…or cheat!” Then I asked him if he knew Jesus. He stated yes, and that he prays everyday. We talked about the things that he prays for everyday, and they were the same things that he had just read about. We then prayed together. One thing I learned that day is the true beauty of a child like faith. Even though he is only 7, he still understands the beauty of a relationship with God.
